FRED Phase II Simulator for Opioid Use Disorder and Overdose

The Division of Overdose Prevention at CDC has requested additions and updates to the Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) and Overdose simulation Model created under Phase I. The additions requested include:

  • Increased clinical detail regarding the clinical progression of OUD and overdose
  • Additional detail incorporating polysubstance use as one agent characteristics
  • Expanded detail regarding the downstream consequences of OUD (non-overdose but OUD-related mortality)
  • An increase in the number and characterization of the model's representation of prevention and treatment, including expanded MOUD treatment (buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone) as well as other strategies such as clinical guidance, enhanced PMDPs, law enforcement interdiction, linkage to care, and several others
  • An expansion of the web-tool to allow for simulation and evaluation of intervention in all counties or geographically representative counties in every state in the US
